The Crown of Thorns Grand Concert was a collaboration of ideas and designs for my good friend Paul Clark. The Celtic cross and the symmetrically woven crown of thorns rosette are made of Boxwood and are symbolic of Christ’s earthly nature; the symbol of his mission here on earth; his earthly body, sacrificed for our redemption. Boxwood trinity knots are used for the fingerboard markers and are also on the bridge. The luminescent abalone circles symbolize His Heavenly Spirit and are used to surround the top and the thorns in complete heavenly protection through the promise of His Holy Spirit.  The word inlaid below the cross, Tetelestai, is the Greek word for His last utterance on the cross; the declaration of His accomplished mission of His love and forgiveness;  the debt is paid: “It is finished.”

            Mr. Petros,

My name is Tom McCarthy. I just wanted to say that the Crown of Thorns Guitar is the most most moving piece of art I have ever encountered. I have never seen the message of Christ so movingly displayed by any craftsman in the past 300 years. The use of the Greek almost made me cry and the way the crown rosette is so intricately connected with the Cross shows an incredibly deep understanding and respect for what is being symbolized. I just wanted to thank you for showing me that some people really do realize what is important in life. I hope to own one someday, but I am a guitar player in college, and do not have the budget quite yet. Cristos Aneste.

Pax Christi,
